Tornado Relief

Purpose of this page is to inform of localized efforts that our association churches can be involved with in the recent West KY tornado relief efforts.  Our goal is to provide a centralized spot to learn of mission efforts.

1-4-22

At the time of this writing, I have spoken with several church leaders in West KY as well as Emergency Management in Frankfort.  The efforts right now are still a search and rescue state. FEMA, as well as localized rescue squads are going through rubble to recover missing persons and are requesting that volunteer crews be minimized.  (I can't stress that enough, let first responders do their work, there will be plenty of work to be done in the upcoming weeks)

Latest Updates on needs
  • Bro Tommy has spoken with relief centers in West KY, and as of right now and foreseeable future they are pausing all donations.  Our state has stepped up in a big way to provided resources for victims and they are at a point of capacity of donated items until homes get reconstructed and displaced families find more long term housing solutions.

  • Our Association will be sending another team towards the end of January, to either Bowling Green or Mayfield. If you are interested in being a part of one of these teams, identify so through the form at the bottom of the page.

  • As our association is anticipates additional trips for emergency response we are still adding different tools and resources to make our work better.  We have some rakes, shovels, tarps and gloves, but could still use a generator, wheel barrow and other relief like tools.

  • The big needs we have identified is in the gift card form. As families begin putting pieces back together there are just some items that the relief centers don't have.  You can collect gift cards in any amounts to (Lowes, Walmart, Home depot, Kroger...) The association is more than happy to assist you in getting those to the right places.

Churches Accepting Donations and Aid

I want to include some church info as well as other credible places where monetary donations could be sent to assist the victims.  You can give through the Laurel River Baptist Association:  114 Carter Dr, London KY 4074, we will make sure the donation gets to the right places.

Our Next step and how you can help

Our goal is to come alongside a local church and provide hands on assistance. In order to do that we need additional resources.  In order to be mission ready we need to following: Generator, work gloves, pry bars, hammers, tarps, large industrial trash bags, rakes, scoop shovels, wheel barrels, empty gas cans.  I am also preparing to send a team soon. Perhaps to do chainsaw work, debris removal... simply serving others.  if you are able and desiring to go fill out this quick form.
